For some time, and more precisely, for about 10 years, one of my favorite Polish songs is “Nothing can last forever” by Anna Jantar. This – one can say – trivial piece was my discovery only at a certain stage of my life. In our youth, we often think that we are eternal, that everything is permanent and imperishable, and the declarations we hear from others are given forever. Nothing more deceptive. Over the years, gaining experience, we learn that nothing is given forever. Everything is subject to changes, transformations. We grow old, loved ones leave, pass away. The world is developing, but also self-degrading, cataclysms, diseases, crises are coming unexpectedly. What we gain, we lose, and we gain what we never dreamed of. In addition to individual changes, certain rhythms, sinusoids, ups and downs, repetition of events, phenomena and behaviors can also be noticed. Cyclic nature, continuity, loops that give us hope for even a faint predictability and allow us to expect that the sun will come out after the night.
I would like my exhibition of the latest works created especially for the ‘W Przyziemiu’ Art Gallery to be interpreted according to this key. The heart of the exhibition is a large-format puzzle of rhythms representing a certain continuity of events, repetition and anchoring. The walls of the gallery, painted in matte black color, create a dark atmosphere. In my opinion, these interiors are the best background for my thoughts on changes. This darkness, from which – illuminated by a pointed light – emerges only what I want to be seen, the rest is drowned in darkness. This allows to concentrate and focus on what is bright, immersed in light; darkness remains a background only.
